Introduction to Year 3

This will be the year when you will move fast towards the full maturation of your acquired skills and refine your understanding of disease and its treatment through a holistic approach. In specific, we shall be looking into more clinical pathology and work together in class on over 60 case histories, so that you become skilled in following the thinking required to be successful in the clinical practice and, later on, in your work as an acupuncturist This year is devoted to finishing clinical pathology and case studies. We shall work on how to take the case history, how to analyse the data, how to make a diagnosis and then formulate a principle of treatment leading to the choice of the appropriate meridians and points. The retreat will be mainly devoted to practical clinical skills: taking a diagnosis, using moxa, cupping, guasha and various needle techniques used in the clinic.

Description of Year 3

Expected outcome: by the end of this year all students will have mastered both theoretically and practically how to conduct a succesful treatment. For us it matters that all students understand the link between physiology - pathogens - mechanisms of pathology- principles of treatment - treatment as this is the only way to  accompany a person in need not only to the solution of the superficial symptom, but also of the  underlying structure that has made it possible in the first place.

⦁As all other years, this year is made or 7 x 20 hours modules + end of the module test (140 hours) + weekly webinars  x 10 months  (120 hours) and the end of the year retreat (98+hours).

⦁This year we shall continue the study of clinical pathology and practice clinical competence, by working in class on over 60 clinical case history in detail.

⦁By the end of this year, all students will be able to:   understand the mechanism of pathology of any disease, conduct a proper a  differential diagnosis,  organise the data found into a meaningful picture, relying not only on Zang Fu theory  but also on 5 Elements and the cycle of Yang ebbing /Yang waxing,  plan a holistic treatment for chronic diseases and  an emergency treatment for acute diseases.  Student will also know how to deal with referrals to other specialities including and foremost, the patient’s doctor.

⦁We shall also study: obstetrics, dermatology, neurology, cardiology, haematology, and diseases of the muscular system, emotional and mental issues, nose eyes, ear and mouth diseases, immune-deficient disorders, insomnia, and many more aspects of clinical pathology.  By studying them you will  not only become able to treat most diseases patients bring to the clinic, but also see how many pathologies belonging to different clinical department (in western medicine)  fall under the same mechanisms of pathology and syndromes and lead you back, practically, to an holistic approach to the human being and his/her health.

⦁The retreat will provide time for practicing in depth diagnosis and proposal of treatment based on cases histories taken in class.

⦁Qigong and meditation will be an essential part of it.

I am deeply convinced that learning is a work in progress without end. I love life and because I am in love with life I teach ancient Chinese medicine, a medicine mainly concerned with understanding the laws governing life and how to foster its quality.I have been teaching Chinese Medicine (theory as well as acupuncture and herbs) since 1989, both as guest teacher in some European Schools of Chinese Medicine and as speaker at various professional congresses in Europe, the United States and China.I have articles published in prestigious professional magazines and have translated part of books from Chinese into English. I write a lot and publish little as I believe that writing a book is a learning in progress, whose content changes as I change and deepen my understanding.I founded AOM in 1995 and have guided its growth ever since.  I am joyful and grateful because I have been very fortunate to share my path with beautiful people who have now become skilful therapists and, some of them, teachers in AOM.I am thrilled to share AOM online with a team of amazing, deeply humane, spiritual and superbly skilled people who will be at my side as co-teachers.Read more...
